48-Bit to 24-Bit JPG Scans
London Negative and Slide Scans offers two types of scanning services for your 35mm, 126 and 110 films.
Our 48-Bit to 24-Bit scans are first scanned-in as 48-bit and then converted to 24-Bit JPG files. The scans are performed at 48-Bit 3600 dpi which provides the greatest latitude in post editing. After the editing process is concluded, the images are then saved as 24-Bit JPG images at 3600 dpi. This size will allow a 35mm negative to produce a very crisp 10-inch x 14-inch print (254mm x 355mm). Making larger prints is very plausible but perhaps not bigger than 16×20 (406mm x 508mm).
For those who desire to preserve and obtain the highest resolution possible from your 35mm negatives, we also offer 48-bit scans at saved in TIFF format. TIFF files are very large digital images at about 50-70MB per image, but having TIFF files of your negatives and slides is like having the digital equivalent of a negative that will be ready for the future. TIFF files can easily be converted into JPG files using any photo editing software from Photoshop to Microsoft Paint, and we do not charge more to save as TIFF files.

FILM SIZES THAT WE SCAN

35mm colour or black & white negative film scanning. This is the most commonly scanned film and we can scan individually cut negative and strips not to exceed 6 frames per strip. All colour negatives are scanned at 3600 dpi and are also processed using infrared technology to remove dust and scratches. Unfortunately, infrared technology cannot be used on black & white films.

35mm colour or black & white slide films are our second most-requested scanning services. Slides may be mounted or unmounted, but stripes of slide film must be cut into stripe of six (6) frames or less. All colour slides are scanned at 3600 dpi and are also processed using infrared technology to remove dust and scratches. More post-scanning processes are required with slide scans to try and match the scans as close as possible to the original slide.

126 negative film was a cartridge-based film primarily used in instamatic cameras developed by Kodak in 1963. We created customised film holders made especially for the 126 film format size and our the Plustek 8300i scanners. So we can scan your old 126 negative! 126 slide film also found its way into many households during the 1960’s and 1970’s, but 126 slide films will have to be removed from their mounts for us to scan them.

110 negative film was also a cartridge-based film primarily used in instamatic cameras. We created customised film holders made especially for our Plustek 8300i scanners and the 110 film format. So we can scan your old 110 negatives!
